Skin Indigo Q&A

Want to get a facial, but don't know what's involved?

Recently Emily Loewe, a skeptic, and first time user of facials services sat down with Ryan W. from Wordcount for a post-treatment Q&A session. Emily received the Signature facial by Syndi at *Skin* Indigo Facial Studio- located within Indigo Palm Salon. Check out what she had to say...

Ryan @ WCM: Have you ever had a facial before?

Emily: No, I’ve never had a facial. I usually don’t do spa-related things. To tell the honest truth, I was a little nervous about it.

Ryan @ WCM: Did you enjoy it?

Emily: Yea, but I was a little scared at first. I didn’t know if I would like someone touching my face. She did a good job of making me comfortable and talking me through the whole process.

Ryan @ WCM: Was there anything about the process that surprised or stood out to you?

Emily: She said she was going to do a massage for my face. And I had no idea what that meant. I was wondering if she was just going to rub my face. But no, it was like a combination of soothing strokes and gently working on pressure points, like my sinuses. I was surprised how much I actually liked it. I have to say, that was the part I was most worried about because I’m a little touch-phobic. But it was nice, gentle pressure, and she was very calming. She kept reminding me to relax and take deep breathes. Also, at one point, she used the little electro thing on me and it was really awesome! The noise it makes is really intense, but it doesn’t hurt at all. It just feels like a little tingle feeling. I think that is what has actually made the biggest difference in my skin. Before my visit, I had a couple blemishes and now it seems like they’ve been really reacting to it. At the time of the facial they looked pretty bad, but now they are healing really quickly. This is something new for me because usually my skin heals really slowly. My skin felt great afterwards. It didn’t feel dry or oily, I was like, wow, I can’t believe how soft it is!

Ryan @ WCM: So, you definitely have noticed a difference?

Emily: Yes, it has made a difference.  Going into this, I honestly didn’t think it would. I thought it would feel good for just that day and then wash off, but it has actually treated my skin. I was half expecting to wake up and have more blemishes, but I’ve noticed that my skin is pretty calm, and it hasn’t even been as irritated as it normally gets. One of my favorite parts was the mud mask she used on me. She only put on a little bit to start and let me test it. She was cautious to let me know that sometimes it can be reactive, or cause a burning-like sensation  on some skin types, but everything felt fine so she went ahead and applied the rest. I enjoyed the mask part because as I was lying there I could feel it working— it was kind of tingly, and I knew it was doing something.

Ryan @ WCM: Do you think it’s worth the money for the service?

Emily: Oh yea, I’ve already got another appointment scheduled for next week. Plus, she gives a lot of incentives, like for referring clients. It’s really nice because Syndi is not only good at what she does, but she knows why the process is good for you. Just like a teeth cleaning at the dentist, you need to go in and get your skin cleaned regularly too.

Ryan @ WCM: What would you say to someone who has never had a facial before, but is interested in it?

Emily: I think they should just try it. I was nervous and I tend to be self-conscious about my skin, but now I am hooked.  It was really nice to do something that made me feel better, and she was very careful to take things slowly and tell me what she was doing before she was doing it. Several times she paused and asked me how things felt. She was very calm and relaxed through the entire service. My anxiety melted away because she would she told me what was doing, what products she was using, and explained how everything worked.  Plus at the end, she applied some light makeup. It really made me feel great, I was glowing inside and out when I left the *Skin* Indigo Studio.

Summer Style Guide

Summer Style Guide
-Indigo Palm Salon-

"So, I noticed it's all of a sudden hot—really hot. I don't know how it happened, but somehow summer just caught me off guard. And as I was blow drying my hair this morning, I realized something. My hair is so last season and in need of an update. I have a lot going on this weekend and I want to look good. When can you get me in?"

This is a story that I hear from my clients all the time. It's fairly typical. I get calls almost every day from people suffering a seasonal style dilemma. And of course, this summer is no different.Everyone is looking for a new look, but not everyone knows what's trending this summer. That's where I come in.

Indigo Palm Salon, BoiseRemember how beautiful Katniss Everdeen looked with braids in The Hunger Games? You can have the same look with braids too! But not just everyday braids. I'm talking about styles with a little more spunk--think fishtail or waterfall braids. Soft braided up-dos will also do the trick.

Beyond braids, 2012 is all about fashion revival. This summer's fashion-forward are wearing popular styles from as far back as the roaring 20s all the way through the rocking 80s. It’s really a season where anything goes!

There are also new trends in color this summer. Most popular is color rub (hair chalking), which is replacing the hair-feather trend of last year. It's a cool way to temporarily add fun colors to your hair (pastels are in) without going permanent. Another hot trend is ombre, also called color melting. It blends your dark color to light without having any defined highlights or roots—it looks beautiful! And of course summertime always calls for lighter colored hair, but this season, warm blondes are more popular than the ultra-light platinums of the last few years.

Last but not least, let's talk about the guys. Gentlemen, vintage looks aren't just for the ladies this season. After a long run, the faux hawk is finally on it's way out and the pompadour is in! 2012's take on the classic James Dean and Elvis Presley style hasn't veered much from the original (and why should it?), but some are opting for closely faded sides and a blow-out, jersey styled top. A similar look that is also making a comeback is from an even earlier era. Characters in HBO's Boardwalk Empire sport a classic undercut styleback and sides are clipper short and the top is long and slicked back. Both the pompadour and undercut are easy to style and will keep cool on a hot day. Add a short beard or keep your 5 o'clock shadow and you'll be set for fashion success.

Be on the lookout for future articles. We’re going to be creating how-to guides for more of the hottest styles of the summer!
